Luxury Ski Chalets in Zermatt

The mesmerizing views of the majestic Matterhorn make Zermatt a firm favourite with skiers and non-skiers alike on a luxury ski holiday in Zermatt. Meander through the streets, pop into the interesting boutiques or simply take in that view from the terrace of your Zermatt luxury ski chalet. The vast and high ski area covers three major areas and is linked with Cervinia on the Italian border.

Zermatt Resort Guide

Car-free Zermatt was once a rustic farming village and those roots are still clearly evident in the town today. There’s a real mix of the old and new, with ancient wooden buildings with slate roofs dotted around the narrow lanes juxtaposed with cutting-edge luxury ski chalets and upmarket boutiques for the well-heeled international visitors.

The result is a charming but cosmopolitan feel with plenty of character.

Zermatt is a gourmet paradise and boasts some of the best mountain restaurants in the Alps, both up on the slopes and also in the car-free village centre.

The facilities for beginners and the lift system in general have seen some significant improvements in recent years so many of the old bottlenecks have been alleviated.

Zermatt is best known for the iconic Matterhorn which helps to make the already spectacular views into something close to perfection.

When to Visit Zermatt

Zermatt has one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps due to the high altitude of the skiing. The lifts normally run from mid-November to Early May.

What We Love About Zermatt

We love the mountain restaurants – probably the best in the world – complimented by those spectacular views of the Matterhorn. Throw in a charming village and superb skiing and Zermatt is a winning combination.

Getting to Zermatt

Zermatt is approximately 3 hours drive from Geneva Airport. Airport transfer vehicles can only reach the edge of Zermatt as only electric vehicles are allowed in the village itself. Electro taxis can then take you across the village to the chalet.

There is also a train station in Zermatt should you wish to arrive by train.

The Skiing in Zermatt

The skiing in Zermatt also won’t disappoint. The area links with Cervinia on the Italian side making a huge and accessible ski area, and even an early intermediate can make the trip over. The terrain is varied and is particularly good for intermediates on a luxury ski holiday in Zermatt as there is an abundance of red runs, most of which are fairly gentle.

The facilities for beginners and the lift system in general have seen some significant improvements in recent years so many of the old bottlenecks have been alleviated.

One thing you notice when skiing in Zermatt is the altitude. Much of the skiing is above 2500m and goes up to a very lofty 3899m, so the snow tends to last very well as the temperatures stay low.

So overall Zermatt has bags of charm, excellent skiing, great restaurants and plenty of luxury ski chalets – not surprising it is often voted the world’s best ski resort.

Best Places to Eat and Drink in Zermatt

One of the real draws of Zermatt is the wonderful selection of mountain restaurants. Zermatt boasts 38 mountain restaurants and the standard across the board is extremely high. The spectacular scenery, the authentically restored traditional alpine farm buildings and the fantastic regional cuisine are a winning combination.

For views of the Matterhorn and excellent regional food in beautifully quaint rustic surroundings try one of the restaurants at Findeln, below Sunnegga – Findlerhof, Chex Vrony, The Paradies and Adler are all highly recommended.

On the chefs’ night off at your luxury catered ski chalet, head into town and you’ll find every type of restaurant from haute cuisine to rustic regional or contemporary chic. Try the innovative Italian cuisine at the Michelin-starred Ristorante Capri on the top floor of the Petit Cervin Hotel.

Similarly, there is a wide choice of bars and clubs, with something to suit all tastes. You’re sure to have an amazing time.
