This picturesque location is worlds apart from the glamorous Riviera but without any compromise on style.

Cap Ferret Region Guide

Cap Ferret is a hidden gem when it comes to luxury villa holidays. With beautiful beachfront villas and incredibly fresh seafood, it’s the perfect destination for a relaxed and authentic holiday.

And when you decide to venture away from the beach and your luxury villa, hire a bike and head to one of the local markets. There is so much to see and taste whilst at Cap Ferret.

Cap Ferret is a small sandy peninsula just south of the Medoc, approximately 30 miles west of Bordeaux. In the east, you will find the glittering blue bay of Bassin d’Arcachon, home to stunning antique yachts. To the west, a third of a mile across the peninsula is the beach, which is hugely popular with surfers. This is also where you will find local boulangeries and grill restaurants, perfect for long lunches before you head back to your villa after the sun has set.

With villas popping up in amongst the sand dunes, you can feel like you have the beach to yourself from the comfort of your luxury villa. And if you decide to explore the area better, be sure to hire a bike, as there are lots of cycle routes and villages worth exploring, especially the local markets such as the one in Arcachon where you can buy ingredients for a beach picnic.

When to Visit Cap Ferret

Lovely at almost any time of year, though occasionally a little wet in winter, you can holiday here whenever you like. From May to July is the most popular as this is when the average daytime temperature is 23°C.

What We Love About Cap Ferret

We love the multitude of waterside restaurants that are dotted around the bay, serving the freshest of seafood, straight from the sea.

Getting to Cap Ferret

Cap Ferret is approximately a 1-hour drive from Bordeaux airport or train station.

The Best Places To Eat and Drink

The emphasis here is on rustic luxury – think barbeques and oysters.

Be sure to head to Chez Boulan one evening: it is just one of the many tasting bars that populate the Quartier Ostréicole. Here you will find deliciously fresh and salty oysters with lemon wedges, and plates of steamed shrimp all to be washed down with local white wine. What more could you want?

Or head to Le Père Ouvrard with its tempting happy hour and fish-based tapas. Just sit back, keep the small dishes coming and you’ll feel like a local in no time whilst on a luxury villa holiday in Cap Ferret.
