Description

A feat of both design and engineering, the Backstage Chalet offers an experience like no other. This luxury chalet in Zermatt was originally a 1940s Valais house, which has been extensively renovated by the renowned artist and designer Heinz Julen, using local larch and huge swathes of glass to create an uber contemporary and ultra-cosy luxury chalet with panoramic views.

The chalet is decked out in furniture, furnishings and art from Julen’s own studios in Zermatt, making this property an interiors fanatic’s dream. The living and dining rooms and kitchen have open-gabled ceilings, filling the communal spaces with light and offering wonderful views. A wood-burning stove brings warmth and cosiness to these open-plan spaces.

Below, the bedrooms are spread out over two storeys. Each bedroom is designed to be superbly comfortable and relaxing, decorated in warm woods and neutral shades and with TV, internet access and all the comforts and mod-cons you’d expect from a luxury ski chalet.

The most magical parts of the property are to be found in its extremities. Down in the basement, a separate TV room with home cinema system provides a cosy place for the kids to escape to or for everyone to sprawl in with drinks and snacks for a film night.

For your added relaxation and convenience, the chalet also boasts its own sauna and ski room complete with boot warmers. Then up at the very top of the chalet is a jaw-dropping whirlpool, which at the touch of a button is lifted up and out of the roof on hydraulics, allowing six of you to sit in the bubbles, gazing out over the snowy rooftops.
