Hidden away in a peaceful valley, on the ancient Murlo estate is Villa Molinella. This luxury villa in Umbria is a truly magical place to stay, bursting with charm and fascinating history. The former 13th-century mill has been thoughtfully restored, remaining faithful to the building’s original layout and using rustic woods and stone throughout. But rich, colourful soft furnishings, well-made Italian furniture, and air con throughout, elevates what was a humble mill to a luxury retreat in the Umbrian hills.
The communal rooms are just as stylish and cosy in equal measure, with comfy armchairs and sofas gathered around a wood burning stove for cooler evenings, an intimate dining area and a beautifully equipped kitchen with all the gadgets you could need and a huge Smeg fridge. And to counterpoint the charm of the historic interiors, Sky, LCD TV, Bluetooth and high-speed internet give you all the mod cons you need.
The outdoor spaces are, if it’s possible, even more charming. Take your morning coffee outside on the sunny loungers, perched right by the river babbling past you. There are endless places to explore on foot, hide with a book and relax over long lunches and wine.
As well as the stunning outdoor swimming pool, there is also a stream-side hot tub, a sauna to relax in and an underground Jacuzzi hidden in the ancient vaults of the mill – a wonderfully cool and mysterious spot to spend a hot afternoon in. There are also many natural pools nearby that you can swim in. Head off on a walk to take in the local landscape and pause for a dip in the sunshine now and then. What could be more perfect?

Villa Molinella is a luxury villa in Umbria, tucked away on the private Murlo estate in the Umbrian hills.
The estate is close to lots of beautiful Umbrian and Tuscan hill towns and just 20 minutes from the historic city of Perugia.

Make the most of your luxury home away from home and the abundance of fresh local produce available in the area during your stay here. The spacious kitchen has all the mod-cons you could need to rustle up classic Italian favourites, which are best enjoyed al fresco at the dining table by the river.
The Murlo Estate, on which Villa Molinella is located, also has its own fabulous restaurant, Il Caldaro, which specialises in locally sourced meat, homemade pasta and other local dishes, all using only the best ingredients, sourced locally and seasonally. Il Caldaro also has a farm shop where you can buy ingredients if you wish to experiment in the kitchen yourself while you are here, or take home some of Umbria’s delicious produce. We highly recommend the estate’s own olive oil – better than any oil you’ll have tasted anywhere else.
