A lift whisks you straight to the stylish entrance, and inside, spacious living areas mean there’s always room for everyone to gather together or find a quiet little nook for themselves. The open-plan living space is made up of a comfortable dual-aspect lounge area with a roaring fire, where you can relax with friends and family after a day out on the mountain. This opens onto an intimate dining space and a modern kitchen with a bar area so you can sit and chat to whoever is working on dinner.
A small TV lounge/study gives you a place to escape to or for the kids to watch a movie in the evenings undisturbed, but this room can also be configured as a fifth bedroom.
All the bedrooms are simply but beautifully designed – the window seat in the master bedroom is a particular treat – and there are also five separate bathrooms, so there’s no waiting for a shower in the morning before you head out to the snow.
In the afternoons, after an energetic morning on the slopes, take the secret tunnel from your building over to the Hotel Schweizerhof’s spa. Guests of Whymper Residence have access to the hotel’s wellness area during peak winter and summer, with an indoor swimming pool, sauna and indoor Jacuzzi.
Even the practical details have been thought of here, with a utility room with shower and laundry facilities, and all the gadgets you could need in the well-equipped kitchen, to make your stay completely stress free.
But beautiful though the interiors of Whymper are, one of the highlights here is the chalet’s proximity to everything you might want to see and do. Step out into car-free Zermatt and you’re just a minute from the ski lift but also moments from the shops, bars and restaurants and a happy morning’s people-watching if that’s what you feel like doing. Whymper Residence is set right in the heart of the village, next to the ice rinks in winter (tennis courts in summer) and just a minute’s walk from the shops and two minutes from the mountain railway. It’s a minute from the Gornegrat ski lift and the train station, too.
Zermatt is a car-free resort which has a railway station, so guests often arrive by train.
Geneva Airport is approximately 3 hours drive away.

Whymper Residence is a self-catered apartment with an open-plan kitchen, designed with everything you could need, including a Nespresso machine for those ‘straight out on the slopes days’.
With an easy stroll into the centre of town, you’re perfectly placed to explore the many wonderful restaurants Zermatt has to offer and the resort staff will be happy to help with restaurant bookings.
We love local institution Chez Vrony, for a lunch on the mountain. For an evening meal you can’t go wrong with the Peruvian/Asian fusion La Muna for its amazing sharing plates menu.

Kids
The open-plan layout of Whymper Residence lends itself well to families and there’s plenty of room for children to play.
Kids of all ages will enjoy using the private tunnel to the Swizerhof Hotel’s swimming pool. You’re also well placed right next to the ice-skating rink in the winter, which is transformed into tennis courts in the summer.
While the adults catch up over drinks in the evenings, children can snuggle in the separate TV room in front of their favourite movie.
Most of the bedrooms can be configured as either doubles or twins and bedroom 4 has integrated fold-out beds too, so it can become a family room or kids’ room to sleep four.
Nannies and babysitters can be arranged on request.
